Portable Air Compressor Reviews

portable air compressor reviews

The DeWalt Max Trim we reviewed – #5 on the list, out of 5.

This is nearly it, the second to last page to wrap up this little site experiment – a portable air compressors review page.

I own nothing on this portable air compressor reviews page.  Not a single one of them.

However…

I do work with them daily both at work and at home.  I love building.  I know compressors and what they can do.

Mainly it comes down to 2 things:

  • what you need it to do &
  • what you want from an air compressor overall.

Of course you sort of know what you’d like it to do.  Off the top of your head though, do you:

  • Want it quiet above all else?  Look at the Senco.
  • Want a large tank capacity for portable?  Porter-Cable.

DEWALT Max Trim Compressor Review – D55140, 1-Gallon, 135 PSI

DeWalt Max Trim Compressor reviewThe Dewalt D55140 is a dependable compressor that can be easily operated by one person, not that most air compressors can’t. It has a compact design, is very lightweight, operates very quietly and is an ideal tool for finishing. It can be used for remodelling jobs as well as pressure testing of plumbing lines.

And don’t let the little diamond decking fool you.  It says right on it – no step.  Lol.

This compressor is powered by a 2.6 Amp motor that can provide 0.75 SCFM at a rate of 90 PSI which can be stretched to a maximum of 135 PSI. It also equipped with a high-flow regulator. The pump is oil free which allows for maintenance free operation. This unit is built from heavy-duty cast-iron and the frame provides complete protection from routine wear and tear and a little bit of rough handling. Also, the key compressor components are further protected by a control panel which wraps around the frame. This compressor is only 9 inches wide and weighs only 24 lbs. Read more

Porter-Cable CMB15 Air Compressor Review – 1.5 Gallons, Shrouded

Porter-Cable CMB15 Air Compressor Review

Porter-Cable CMB15 air compressor reviewThe Porter-Cable CMB15 air compressor is maybe the most home friendly of the compressors I’m going to review.  For now anyways.

It’s 1.5 gallons, puts out 150 psi, it’s oil free thankfully, shrouded (which I don’t necessarily love,) pretty light, and has an outstanding delivery pressure and rate.

Need more pressure?  Turn the dial on the front.  This portable air compressor (handle anyone?) from Porter-Cable can easily fill tires, clean out some piping, operate some air tools.

And it comes with the accessory kit most Porter-Cable air compressors do, nothing fancy but it lets you get started right away.  Most compressors don’t.

The CMB15 compressor is the #3 best seller, has a high rating, and overall people seemed to love it.  Like I wrote above, me personally, I am not in love with this style of compressor.  I need something a bit more rugged, see the con section below.

I think the Porter-Cable CMB15 would be ideal for most people.  It can take care of most things that you’d need an air compressor to do.  It’s not expensive, you can store it or bring it with you easily, and it has the Porter-Cable toughness and warranty.

Porter-Cable makes tools that are well established in the construction world, there’s a reason – quality.  Read the review I have carefully crafted about this compressor below.  If you are undecided about buying a compressor, or don’t know if you even really need one, or simply have a question, use the comment form below and type away.  I’ll try to help as much as possible.

Hopefully this Porter-Cable CMB15 review will answer all of your questions.  Check it.

Bostitch Oilfree Air Compressor Review

Bostitch Oilfree Air Compressor Review

Bostitch Oilfree Air Compressor ReviewI have to say, I kind of dig the way the 1.2 gallon Bostitch oil free air compressor looks.  However, we aren’t only interested in how it looks right?  We need to know some specs and features, will it handle what you need it to?

Bostitch has a pretty strong presence as far as air compressors and air/pneumatic tools go in the home improvement and construction trades.  They have a fairly big line of compressors to choose from as well as hand tools like nailers, staplers, etc.  The one tool from Bostitch I use the most would be my brad nailer.

If you follow the blog at all, you are aware that I have been re-doing my kitchen.  So far I have built 2 cabinets from the ground up and with all of the cabinet/cupboard work, I have been wearing out the brad nailer.  It is a very handy tool.  But you can’t run it without a compressor.

For today’s post, we are going to write up a detailed review of the Bostitch 1.2 gallon oil free high output trim compressor.  What does high output mean?  Who knows, but let’s try and find out.  We’ll check Amazon, Lowe’s, the Bostitch site to try and uncover this mystery.

The description for this air compressor says it’s highly portable and built for performance, but just how portable is it?  It rates very highly among users, the highest rated compressor to get a review so far.  Hmmm, very interesting.

This 1.2 gallon, oil free Bostitch compressor ranks in the top 10 and is one of the few that you’ll see doing work both in the home or out in buildings.  There aren’t many that actually do pull double duty.  Sure some work around the house but don’t put out hard enough for bigger jobs.  This one can.

Again, check out the features or specifications below.  Find out if this compressor will meet your needs first, take out the guesswork.  It’s important to point out in this Bostitch oilfree air compressor review that I feel some of the pros are pretty positive.  Just keep on reading to find out.

Senco PC1010 Air Compressor Review

Senco PC1010 Portable Air Compressor Review

Senco PC1010 Air Compressor
The Senco PC1010 air compressor is compact, lightweight, portable, and super quiet.  It has a 1 HP compressor motor that can easily handle light to medium duty jobs.  It is designed for finish and trim work but can handle other jobs just as well.

Maybe you haven’t heard of Senco before but they are semi well known on the construction side for making high quality pneumatic products.  I believe my own portable air compressor is a small industrial Senco, of course I’ve made some modifications.

They make reliable products so that both professionals and remodelers can perform in a wide variety of renovation, construction, and industry work.

According to their site, Senco builds their tools with superior quality and they are used in a variety of industries and trades like home construction and remodeling, cabinet, trim, and finish work, as well as manufactured housing and industrial packaging.

I won my Senco air compressor in a raffle at work, oh about 12 years ago, and it is still going strong.  I have used it for trim and cabinet work as well as bigger woodworking projects.  I also used it to throw up a gazillion fence boards no problem.

Find out if this portable, oil free air compressor from Senco will handle what you need it to and get your job done.
